|Sr. SQL Server Database Administrator|
The Database Administrator III provides technical and project leadership for the planning, design, development and management of relational database infrastructure and systems. The DBA III serves as a lead support resource to Choice personnel who are users of these databases, including end users, software developers, operations staff and technical support staff. The DBA III works on mission-critical database systems, or multiple complex projects, and helps ensure that the database infrastructure and systems meet the needs of the business and that they adhere to Choice standards.

III. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES % of Time Essential (E)
Leads the design, documentation and set up of database infrastructure, including hardware and operating systems. Provides guidance and technical support for the database environment and supports internal teams in the use of databases. 30%
Leads the planning, design, installation and configuration of database systems and software. Develops applications for data migration and maintenance. 30%
With a focus on best practices, assists with establishing standards and procedures for monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of database systems. Troubleshoots and resolves complex or escalated system performance issues and provides guidance for system maintenance and tuning. 15%
Leads the design and implementation of database documentation and security standards and procedures. Responsible for disaster recovery planning, implementation and training. 10%
Supports miscellaneous applications with client/server middleware. 5%
Actively mentors new or less-experienced database administrators. Assists with establishing interview criteria and participates in the interview process of candidates. 5%
Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards, tools and operational considerations. Makes suggestions for process, implementation, and performance improvements. 5%
IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education, Experience and Knowledge
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant industry certification, such as Oracle Database Administrator Certified Master, is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in database administration, information systems, or equivalent technical environment, including previous experience supporting highly transactional, mission critical systems is preferred.
Excellent knowledge of data structures and database management systems.
Excellent knowledge of a broad spectrum of infrastructure technologies and secure computing environments: network, hardware and operating systems, servers and storage.
Excellent understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and relational application design and development.
Advanced proficiency with:
o One or more of the following database systems: Informix, Oracle or SQL Server.
o Database monitoring, tuning and optimization tools.
o Database reporting, analytic and query tools and interfaces.
o Database back-up technologies and tools.
Exceptional analytical skills.

Strong leadership skills.
Proficient in the use of MS Office applications, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and perform after hours support, as needed.
